Thanks.
You are right about the problem in Britain though. Labour's 1945 election win is so much a Founding Myth of the British left that despite culpability in two botched wars and the Credit Crunch the 'Red Tories' as many now call them aren't about to disappear like PASOK.
Good luck in Crete, but we may need it more than you.Martin Porterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05003428642599537927noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4453760383249134892.post-45252842671772008262015-02-17T00:01:22.439-08:002015-02-17T00:01:22.439-08:00Thanks for this, much of which is useful and perti... Thanks for this, much of which is useful and pertinent, but which in my opinion misses the crucial point that Syriza's rise is related intimately to its grass-roots relationship with the social movements from below. Within its ranks Syriza is haunted inevitably by left in-fighting, but to its great credit it has not sought to take over the broader movement and indeed is accountable to this constituency. For the moment it is this wider social force that keeps it under manners. For how long there are no guarantees. In terms of Britain this history and the present gives not a jot of succour to those, who try to suggest that the Labour Party in some bizarre way can be transformed into a British Syriza. Comparisons are deeply problematic, but if anything the Greek experience suggests that Labour needs to implode like PASOK, opening up perhaps a radical space for the Greens or their equivalent. For the moment I think it is vital to support Syriza's shot across the bows of neo-liberalism. If it fails and falls it will be a setback for all of us. Best Wishes from Crete.Taylorakishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16449135769780567910noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4453760383249134892.post-41856026168133673502015-02-16T13:08:20.414-08:002015-02-16T13:08:20.414-08:00Thanks.
